Frogs
There are many species of frogs dwelling in and around the lake. I have listed the most well known (to me) below. If you have any more info, stories or photos please don’t hesitate to submit them via the “Contact Form”.
Many of the frogs are often be seen in peoples yards, living in pots, small ponds and laying eggs in the garden.
They predominantly begin to call out (calling for a mate apparently) at dusk & through the night but can sometimes be heard during the day.
The Motorbike Frog
The “Motorbike Frog” is probably the most well recognized. It sounds like a real motorbike taking off !! This frog has an incredible ability to change its colour from dark brown, to grey, to green depending on what surface it is resting on Camouflage). I have watched it change colour before my very eyes. Fascinating stuff! I have noticed that they start calling towards the end of September after the heavy rains we had and seem to go through summer. I’ll update this when they stop. At night they can be quite deafening when they all get going.
The Whooping Frog
The Whooping frog does sound like it is whooping. They started calling last yer at the beginning of April and finished around the 7th of June. There were no frog calls at all until the end of July.
The Western Banjo Frog
The Western Banjo frog begun with just one or two calling out after the heavy weather and rains in the end of July and seemed to slowly quieten down towards September when the Motorbike frogs began to wind up.
