The following email was received from the Rockingham City Council this week:

Hello Ray,

Just a quick email to provide some feedback following our meeting.

I have met with our Engineering drainage design and maintenance persons about feasibility of infilling the drainage outlets to avoid the ponding and stagnant water that is occurring. They need to go away and do a few calculations and cost up the works but I’m hopeful this can be undertaken. Also all drainage outlets around the lake are to be cleaned out.

We have scheduled another clean up on the island and Nathan is looking at ramp type options for better access for the aquatic birdlife.

The weeds and grasses that are taking hold between the lake and surrounding footpath are to be treated with herbicide or manually removed.

The additional footpath has been requested, however it needs to go through a needs type analysis with all other footpath requests the City receives. I will be able to update further in a couple of months once this process has taken place as to if successful.

The water quality looks pretty good at present and lake was recently treated with biological product that we have been using. As mentioned we are looking at our options with water quality so work in this area will be continuing.

Parks maintenance in particular the mowing, pruning and spraying has been addressed with the parks coordinators and teams who maintain this reserve and I will be regularly checking that expected standards are being  upheld.

I ‘d suggest meeting again in 3-4 weeks’ time to review works to date.

Regards Adam
